Costa del Clitheroe

A little touch of Europe in Lancashire. This street is a hidden jewel in Clitheroe Lancashire, an old market town in the Ribble Valley probably most famous for its castle, an old Norman keep and a base for a Royalist Garrison during the English Civil War.

I discovered it when a friend took me to the cheese shop. One of the residents told me that she loved it living there and the only thing missing was a lake!P1030762 (1)

NB The castle’s most prominent feature is the hole in its side which was made in 1649 under orders from the government.100-0222

It was to be put in “such condition that in might neither be a charge to the Commonwealth to keep it, nor a danger to have it kept against them
