A new online service promises to set you up with an invisible boyfriend or invisible girlfriend. You can use it to keep nagging parents off your back, hide your sexuality, wind up your friends about a new mystery lover, or just practise your texting skills if you are out of practice flirting.
You choose a personality type, create a back story of how you met, and choose a portrait, and you’ve created a romantic partner.
Then for about $25 a month your new “lover” sends you 100 texts (written by humans), ten voicemails and one postcard.
The company is based in Missouri and only provides the service in the USA and Canada at present. Can’t help feeling Facebook has missed a trick here – after all they specialise in virtual friends!
