Pregnant? Get down to the gym

woman_pregnant_holding_back_1600_wht_8011Scientists in Montreal have found that mums-to-be who did 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise three times a week had babies with a more mature brain response than those born to non-exercising mums.

It was only a small sample – 10 women in the exercise group and 8 in the sedentary group who began the controlled trial at the start of their second semester – but the results are being presented at The Neuroscience 2013 Conference in California today.

It’s the first study to show the impact of exercise during pregnancy on a baby’s brain according to Professor Ellenberg who led the research.

If nothing else it shows that exercise during pregnancy probably does you more good than harm.
