  1. Harry
  2. Oliver
  3. Jack
  4. Alfie
  5. Charlie
  6. Thomas
  7. Jacob
  8. James
  9. Joshua
  10. William

and

  1. Amelia
  2. Olivia
  3. Lily
  4. Jessica
  5. Emily
  6. Sophie
  7. Ruby
  8. Grace
  9. Ava
  10. Isabella

One in eight parents admit they follow fashion and worry that the names will eventually date. But even those make a change from some of the more esoteric and sometimes merely stupid names chosen by celebrities, footballers, and other parents with no sense and who don’t realise what kids with odd names have to put up with at school.

Some countries like Iceland, Germany, Japan and New Zealand actually ban names they consider unsuitable.
